Dominion - Intrigue Card Game Review

Dominion: Intrigue is the first standalone expansion to the popular card game. Mix with corrupt conspirators, torturers, and swindlers. Meet your contacts at the secret chamber, shanty town. Everyone should know who is in charge. Nice guys always finish last, as they say. The race for Dominion will get very messy!

Dominion: Intrigue, a standalone expansion to the award-winning Dominion game card game, is now available. It was released in 2008 and has shaken the gaming industry. It can be used in conjunction with the base game or on its own. This review is focused on the Dominion: Intrigue expansion. Our Dominion review will provide more information about the game's gameplay.

Dominion: Intrigue's theme is about secret agents and underhand dealings that can help you gain control. Many of the cards in this set support this theme by actively manipulating your opponents' decks and hands, forcing them to discard valuable cards, and a large number of them. New card types are also available: cards that can be used as victory cards, treasure cards, or action cards.

The set includes a variety of cards that sound dangerous, including minion, saboteur, torturer, and swindler. These cards also possess dangerous abilities. The Saboteur can force opponents to discard a high-priced card and swap it for a cheaper one. The Swindler allows you to swap cards from your opponents' decks for another card. It costs the same as a Silver and provides you with 2 coins. The Torturer makes opponents discard 2 cards, or draw a curse card. You can also draw 3 cards. These cards, known as action-attack cards, will make your opponents' lives very difficult. Dominion can be compared to a solitaire game where you only focus on your deck. It's obvious that this expansion will have a lot more interaction!

This expansion introduced a new Arcade type, or rather, a combination of different card types. Cards can now be a combination of a win card and an action or treasure card. Players were reluctant to purchase victory cards early because too many would limit your ability to play or buy. The new cards fix that problem. The Great Hall grants you an additional card and action, as well as a victory point. The Harem provides you with 2 coins and 2 victory factors. These cards are more expensive than similar cards but you can't deny that they offer flexibility.

The set also contains many other cards, such as the Duke, which is worth more victory points for having more Duchies. The Coppersmith doubles the price of coppers and the Bridge makes each card 1 less expensive. The Wishing Well rewards you for correctly guessing the top card in your deck. There's also the Masquerade card, which allows players to give each other cards. There's plenty of entertainment to be had!

It's great to see Dominion expand with expansions such as this, adding new mechanics and themes to an already strong core game. This theme idea is great. It allows players to roleplay their quest to become dominion through open war, stealth, or subterfuge, and it's all very fun. The Seaside and Alchemy expansions were available in mid-2010. The Prosperity expansion is also on the horizon.
